ABOUT PATRICIA VERHAGEN
Patricia Verhagen started playing the piano at the age of 9. When 13, she was invited after a sparkling performance of Debussy’s First Arabesque - to prepare herself for the conservatoire. Besides affinity with French Music, Patricia was attracted to music from Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann. She studied the piano at the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatoire with Edith Lateiner and Willem Brons. After her graduation as a soloist she attended international masterclasses with Sandor Vegh, Vlado Perlemutter and others. Apart from her career as a soloist, Patricia Verhagen appeared with orchestra’s in a repertoire ranging from Bach to piano concertos of Mozart and Rachmaninoff.
VERSATILE MUSICIAN
Patricia Verhagen is a member of various chamber music ensembles. With the Kegelstatt trio Amsterdam she appeared regularly, toured in Singapore and Indonesia and recorded a CD with music of Bruch and Reinecke. On her own label PréVue, a CD on the theme “Wind and Water” appeared with compositions written by Fauré, Debussy and Ravel. A following CD with solo compositions and the viola-piano sonata from the unknown French composer Pierre de Bréville was received very well by public and press. Her versatility is also illustrated by her piano part on the flamenco CD of guitar player Jacco Müller.
Patricia performs regularly with members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Apart from Schumann trio’s, Brahms’ quartettes, Beethoven sonatas etc., she plays pieces written by unjustly unknown composers as Weinberg, Labey, Vierne and Kirchner. She also has a duo with viola player Eileen McEwan; Patricia and Eileen give many concerts with great success, playing Russian and French repertoire.
HISTORICAL INSTRUMENTS
Apart from the modern piano Patricia Verhagen also performs on period instruments, which resulted in invitations to perform in several festivals, such as the ‘Berliner Tage für alte Musik’ and the ‘Festival de Mùsica Antiga’ in Barcelona.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
Patricia Verhagen performs in many countries: Germany, Belgium, Italy, France and of course the Netherlands. She toured in Singapore, Indonesia and in India. In the Netherlands Antilles Patricia played the program “Love and Dance with the Impressionists” and the spectacular program “Spanish Passion” with guitar and dance. Recently she performed there a traditional classical program and the program “Waltz and Tango: from raunchy to respectable” with great success.
